WPBT Diary
6:30 - It's two and a half hours until the WPBT tourney, and I decided to try a Sports Guy-esque running diary. I'm utilizing the F5 (insert date/time) function in Notepad.
The next few hours will be hectic. I have to meet coworkers at Sullivan's Steakhouse at the King of Prussia Mall at 7:00. Then be back at the hotel by 9for the WPBT event. I'll probably do a quick dine - maybe drinks and appetizers only - then head back. I picked up a bottle of wine earlier, so I've got something to sip on during the tourney.
6:37 - As I'm getting ready for dinner, there's a commercial for "Slow Motion", a CD full of 90's slow jams. Good stuff: Babyface, Shai, Silk, Dawn, Tony! Tone! Toni!, The Tony Rich Project, etc. I might make this my first CD purchase in years. If I get it, would I need to sport a high top fade? Do the ladies (the ladies) still like to make out to this stuff? Mrs DP really doesn't care for the R&B slow jams, so maybe I should rethink this whole thing.
6:40 - On a rerun from last night's Real World, Karamu just said: "I'm missing the more urban side of Philly." This is after picking up a guy at a gay bar. Yeah, it doesn't more get ghetto-riffic than that...
6:42 - I just remembered why I stopped watching the Real World Philly. I always get confused. Which one's Landon and which one's MJ? And the slut with the big fake boobs annoys me. Who woulda thunk that the only "normal" person on this show is Willie, the gay guy from New York? Time for me to hit the road.
7:07 - I got caught up singing along to "The Greatest Love of All" and got lost at the mall looking for the restaurant
7:10 - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" starts on the radio and I miraculously find the restaurant!
7:14 - I exited the car before getting stuck with "Open Arms" by Journey
7:15 - Wondered what the hell radio station I was listening to
Some time between 7:15and 8:42 - A coworker asked what was in a cosmo and was told that it contained cranberry juice. I said, "That would help your urinary tract infection." He replied, "Wow, that means it probably helps with my kidney stones, right?" I take a big sip from my glass of wine.
The service at Sullivan's was great. I informed them that I had to be out of there by 8:45 (we were seated around 8PM) and they served me a salad, escargot, and a filet in record time!
An older gentleman from our group said that in high school they called him "The Albino." Wine almost exited my nostrils.

8:48 - Drove with one hand while the other held the cigar AND my cell phone. I had to call my wife and ask her who sang the song on the radio. It was really bugging me. The song? Trisha Yearwood - How do I live. This knowledge was worth nearly setting my hair on fire. If it worked for Michael Jackson...
9:01 - Ran up the hotel stairs to my room
9:05 - I'm back...151 players? Holy crap!!!

9:11 - I got 88 UTG with the flop Q99. I didn't call the pot-sized bet.
9:14 - Took off my pants and moved to the couch. I just noticed that Ashley Simpson show is on TV. Coincidence. Seriously.
9:15 - Ashley described Allure as a high fashion magazine. Even as a very straight male, I know that Archie comics is higher fashion than Allure.
9:16 - Duke s Wake Forest, score: 7-5, Duke. Channel 36 in case i need to go back to this channel.
9:17 - Some VH1 show with Chaka Khan. What should I watch? Hoops or some bad 80's show.
9:18 - 99 in SB; BB raised all-in....I didn't call. WTF did he have? I might regret this one... He said it wasn't the hammer, because he shows that...
9:23 - My hotel gets the Travel channel! WTF! I don't even get this channel at home. Screw Duke-WF. Screw Chaka Khan. WPT it is! Just got ATs....let's see...4 people in...all I have are overcards and no flush draw...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
9:26 - Now that I've found a channel to watch, I can pay attention to poker...Dammit....T2o. I fold. Again. Just heard that Pauly beat AA with the hammer!

9:28 - I'm at T975 with 137 players left. Because I ran up to the room from the car, I feel rushed to play. Time to pour a glass of wine and relax a little bit.
9:29 - A9o UTG...I folded, 3 people limped. Of course, the flop was 946 Rainbow.
9:32 - A hand (forgot the players) with QQ vs AK vs JJ; The board had two K's for the win.
9:34 - Just realized that despite having 88, 99, and ATs, I've only won with the hammer.... This doesn't look good...
9:37 - My laptop is burning my midsection. I might want to put my pants back on. Or...do...I????
9:39 - Just poured another class of Cabernet. Did you know that Dewey Tomko was a former kindgergarten teacher?
9:41 - Didn't defend my blinds against Anisotropy with my a4o.
9:42 - Took the blinds with presto in MP. 2nd pot of the night. Yay.
9:45 - Blinds are 50/100 and I'm at 850. Need to make a move soon.
9:46 - Dewey Tomko just doubled up with the Hilton Sisters. I'm so disgusted by the hands I've received that I can't even look at the computer.
9:47 - I haven't gotten a decent hand in twenty minutes. And I really have to use the bathroom. I don't want to miss a hand at this point. As soon as we finally see a flop, I'm running to the bathroom.
9:49 - Pre-flop, Anistropy raised enough to put me all-in when I had JJ. I only had T700 and called. He had 88. I thought I was gonna double up, but..... there were four diamonds on board and alas, I didn't have one. IGHN.
9:52 - Just got back from the bathroom. Still in shock.
9:55 - Time to sweat my buddy The Commish's table. He's short stack at the same table as Otis and HDouble. Ouch.
9:58 - Shana Hiatta is discussing the strategy of changing gears. mmmmm...... Now I notice that not only have I seen this episode of the WPT, but I have it on DVD. When this segment is over, I'm switching back to Duke - Wake Forest
10:01 - It's break time, and I realized that sweating multiple tables is more difficult than playing multiple tables. Damn the witty banter that goes in in the chat!

12:21 AM - Mirven pushed all-in with KT. ZeRat called with KQ. And....THEY TIED when the board paired 8's and 2's!
12:22 AM - I'm paying too much attention to the chat again. I have nothing witty to type to keep up with the rest of the bloggers. I SUCK AGAIN!
12:24 AM Mirven went all-in with AKo. He was called by on_thg with ATs. on_thg flopped the flush. Mirven ended up with two pair. Ouch. Down to 7 players...

Actually, the Tomko comment was a quote from the WPT show that was on in the background. Didn't mean to get your hopes up!
Umm, correction at 10:18, I TRIPLED up with AK vs. KK vs. 99.
Of course, I pissed that away with 88 vs. JJ to drop me to the felt, but a good write-up. Good thing you were eliminated so early... It gave you a chance to track a lot of the details that escaped those of us who actually played longer than an hour.
